Carpet Cleaning Tips for Different Types of Stains in Your Chicago Area Home

ServiceMaster Cleaning By Simons is proud to serve the carpet cleaning needs of the Chicago, IL area. In addition to providing many different types of cleaning services, we also want to provide valuable information that you can use to deal with the common occurrences that come with being a homeowner.

While we do think it’s important for you to regularly use professional carpet cleaning to keep your home looking its best, there are times when you’re in a jam and need a quick solution to remove different types of stains in your carpet.

Let’s take a look at some of the different types of stains you may encounter and show you how to deal with them:

    • Ink stains – You can use rubbing alcohol to try and remove the stain. Use a clean cloth with a bit of rubbing alcohol on it and blot the stain starting at the edges and moving inward. You can do this a couple of times until the stain has faded away.
    • Red wine – First, blot the stain with a cloth. Continue to use fresh spots on the cloth and try to soak up as much as you can. After that, you can try a couple of different solutions to deal with the stain. You can use a stain remover if you have one handy (be sure to follow the directions). You can also try using a mixture of baking soda and water to remove the stain. Mix three parts baking soda with one part water until it turns into a paste like substance and pat it through the stain. Once it’s dry, vacuum it off. Lastly, you can try shaking salt onto the stain and vacuuming it off.
    • Nail polish – Once again, blotting is your best friend. If your carpet is lighter, try using non-acetone nail polish remover. Pour a little bit onto a cloth or rag and blot the stain. If your carpet is darker, trying using rubbing alcohol.

Whether you’re a Gold Coast homeowner who has to deal with a wine accident at a family gathering, a West Loop mother who has a nail-painting mishap, or a Near North writer who has an unfortunate fountain pen fiasco, it’s important to have quick carpet cleaning solutions handy when you need them.

Although the tips we shared are helpful, sometimes only professional carpet cleaning can truly bring your carpet back to its pre-stained beauty. If your carpet needs an intervention, contact the professionals at ServiceMaster Cleaning By Simons in Chicago, IL today!
